Seventy metres. That is the distance from the door of Rožių namas to the Baltic — not to a road, not to a car park, but to the water itself. Close enough to drink your morning coffee looking at the sea, and to walk down in the evening without planning anything.

The last stretch is a wooden staircase over the dune. It is not decorative: the dune is sand and fairly steep, and the steps are what let you go down barefoot with a towel.

Karklė’s beach is wide and sandy. On a September evening it is usually empty — empty enough that the only sounds are the surf and the wind in the dune grass.
